OU EST LE SWIMMING POOL'S TRIBUTE CONCERT, ELECTRIC PROMS OUT FOR THE OLDIES, THE HAMPTONS SET SAIL + CARL BARAT'S MEMORY

SOME of my absolute favourite music events of the year are looming so save up your pennies. Tim Robbins plays the Union Chapel (Sept 30), Mencap Little Noise Sessions comes up in November and BBC Electric
Proms is next month.
The Union Chapel's Little Noise Sessions are the most memorable I've ever been to and always produce unique, unpredictable moments. I can not wait to see the line-up. Although the Electric Proms will be a smaller affair this year the kaliber of the stars is higher than ever.
Pleased to see Elton John and Robert Plant aready lined up to play the Roundhouse, but waiting with bated breath to hear which up and comers have been signed up.
(Here's some old footage of Elton teaming up with Guns 'n Roses)
Mr Hudson, The Kooks, Man Like Me and Eddy Temple Morris are among the many acts signed up to celebrate the life of the late Charlie Haddon, former frontman of Ou Est Le Swimming Pool, who died last month. Chazzstock takes place at Koko (Oct 3) – a particularly poignant event for Camden.
Charlie from The Hamptons called this week to say his band plays The Monarch (Sept 21). From what I can gather they're called The Hamptons although they've never been there and Charlie, who once sailed the Atlantic in a yacht, is from Gainsville, Florida, of Koran burning preacher fame.
Re-Libertine Carl Barat’s written a memoir – but will there be anything in it we haven’t already heard? He plays Scala (Oct 27) to promote the book and his debut solo album.

TAYLOR MOMSEN'S UK TRIP, SMALL FACES AND THE WHO IN SENTIMENTAL MOD SEASON, AIR ROADIES ARE REAL, FOALS FOR THE YOUNG, TWEETING LIBERTINES + SCARY ALICE COOPER

I KNOW Taylor Momsen’s moody teenage act fronting The Pretty Reckless is a bit much for some, but I’m hoping to judge for myself when she plays 02 Academy Islington next week (August 19). I like what I’ve heard so far. Plus, she’s the only person I know who wears more eyeshadow than me.

• Congratulations Eddie Six Strings, the first-ever female winner of the UK Air Guitar World Championships at Islington Academy on Friday. A close inspection of the rules reveals air roadies are allowed. Are there air amps to carry?

• Is it the season for Mod sentimentality? We already know about The Who’s convention at Dingwalls (October 3) but it seems the scooter brigade will be stopping off at Relentless Garage (August 15) for the Small Faces convention – billed as seven hours of 100 per cent Small Faces “Mod paradise”. As well as the usual collectable merchandise, there are six bands, some very special guests and screenings of rare footage.

• Here’s a nice touch. Foals are playing a special MTV Presents show for 14 to 18-year-olds at Dingwalls (August 25) – shame I’m a teenage lifetime away from being let in.

• I wonder how many twitter followers Carl Barat had before promising to announce a reunion date “for a little London four-piece” (hint – The Libertines) at HMV Forum on August 25 on his account this week. When I last checked, he had 2,637.

• On Tuesday, Alice Cooper hosted the scariest talent contest at London Dungeon, where he selected the great est sideshows and freaks. But why? So he can scare the hell out of ticketholders heading to his Halloween Night of Fear at Camden Roundhouse (October 31, November 1).

VOLCANO MADNESS AND GIGS FOR POLITICS

ANYTHING can happen in the streets of Camden. We’ve had Madness on a double-decker bus, Reverend and the Makers’ Jon McClure playing outside Morrisons and now it’s the turn of Black Rebel Motorcycle Club.

To appease fans waiting outside the Electric Ballroom last week – their gig began late due to volcano-induced equipment delays – frontman Robert Levon Been came out and played a medley before returning inside and carrying on with borrowed equipment.

Resourceful musicians elsewhere have also been finding ways to occupy themselves while stranded.
Dub Pistols had to cancel their Budapest gig, but good news for London fans, they play a special DJ set at InSpiral lounge in Camden Town on Friday (April 23), free before 11pm.
Nas and Damian Marley’s Electric Ballroom gig on Wednesday was also cancelled.
Ronnie Scott’s has been deluged with calls from musicians with too much free time on their hands, hoping to replace vacant spaces where others have cancelled. In place of US trumpeter Wallace Roney, who couldn’t travel to the UK, two-time Grammy winner Dee Dee Bridgewater, stuck here since performing at the Barbican on Friday, was drafted in to perform in his place.

- If you can get hold of tickets for Instigate Debate at Islington’s Union Chapel (April 26) – this is one pre-election event not to miss. Instigate Debate is a counterculture project formed by a collective of musicians including Carl Barat and Jon McClure, plus journalist Mark Donne and John O’Sullivan. The likes of Vivienne Westwood and Peter Tatchell will be debating “Is the Party Over?”, with performances from The Magic Numbers and Rose Elinor. The audience member who writes the best 100-word argument on the topic wins a free gig in their own home from a surprise line-up of exciting musicians.
